Hybrid glass coatings have many possible uses. Among them are:
- Protective coatings for specialty optical fiber.
- Low refractive index coatings for anti-reflective applications.
- Colored HG coatings for functional and decorative applications.
Product Characteristics
Cure:
HGT hybrid glass coatings are either heat or UV curable compounds:
- Heat curable hybrids harden (cure) when exposed to temperatures of 50-150 °C for 1-4 hours.
- UV–curable materials harden upon UV exposure from commercial UV lamps.
Inorganic Base:
All HGT products are based on one or more of the following oxide components.
- Silica and silicates.
- Aluminosilicates.
- Titanium silicates.
Coating Thickness.
All UV curable formulations can be applied as single or dual coats with a thickness of 3 to 50 microns where the fiber draw process online is concerned. Heat curable materials may be applied as thin, 1-micron films or thicker, 15-micron coats. For optical fiber drawing a thickness not exceeding 15 microns is recommended.
